BME ELDERS HEALTH and HOUSING RELATED NEEDS RESEARCH
Telford Race, Equality and Diversity Partnership was commissioned by Telford and Wrekin Senior Citizens' Forum and Telford and Wrekin Supporting People to undertake a piece of research the aim of which was to investigate the perceived health needs, health inequalities and related housing needs of black and minority ethnic elders living in Telford and Wrekin.
A number of 'focus groups' were held with elders from the five main ethnic communities which provided an opportunity for them to highlight persistent problems, worries or concerns they had which prevented them from achieving a positive sense of health as older service users.
The report has now been completed and was launched at an event and conference in July 2010.

A Guide to Engaging Muslim Communities -
At the CIH’s Annual Conference, in June 2008 Housing Minister Caroline Flint launched a Guide to Engaging Muslim Communities, published by CIH with the Matrix Housing Partnership. The publication follows on from the recent CIH guide Community Cohesion and Housing www.cih.org/publications/pub655.htm, published jointly with the Housing Corporation. The new guide will be useful in helping housing and regeneration bodies engage with the diverse range of people who form different Muslim communities. For further information, visit www.cih.org/publications/pub700.htm. Copies of this guide are available to purchase from the CIH website www.cih.org, where a pdf version can also be downloaded.
