ONE COMMUNITY - ONE VOICE
The TREDP Community Safety Group (CSG) meeting on the evening of July 5th with 22 local faith and community leaders, representatives from the Police and Council to discuss the recent terrorist activities. The overwhelming response from all parties present was one of being united in condemning the wave of terrorist activity and recognition of the challenges this bringing to our local community. All were in agreement with the statement issued by the Muslim Council of Britain that these attacks have been aimed at dividing the nation and undermining our collective strength. To counter this goal we all, irrespective of race, faith or creed, need to work together to show a united front against the common enemy - terrorism and terrorists. CSG members want to reassure all residents in Telford and Wrekin, and in particular our Muslim and Asian neighbours, that we will work with our partner agencies in ensuring their safety and actively seek to minimise any potential backlash or reprisals on innocent members or our diverse community. A positive action plan has been agreed by the CSG and we will continue to monitor the national and local picture.
